S.D. Fla. — All SDFL bar members must file electronically via CM/ECF.

All SDFL bar members must file electronically via CM/ECF. No fax filing. Registration requires mandatory online training (~2 hours). CM/ECF registration = consent to electronic service. Sealed filings: file motion to seal first (publicly viewable), then file sealed material only after granted. L.R. 5.1, 5.4.

Getting Access

  1. Admission to SDFL Bar (Florida Bar required; $224 fee)
  2. Complete CM/ECF training (~2 hours, one session)
  3. Credentials issued within 3 business days

Key Policies

  • Service via CM/ECF = consent to e-service (L.R. 5.1(e))
  • No fax filing (L.R. 5.1(a)(7))
  • Sealed filings: motion to seal first (no attached sealed material); file sealed material only after granted (L.R. 5.4(b))
  • Emergency filings: use CM/ECF emergency events

Filings Under Seal (L.R. 5.4)

  1. File motion to seal (publicly viewable) — describe without revealing
  2. Do NOT attach sealed material until granted
  3. Redact public version if filing while motion pending
  4. If granted, use sealed filing CM/ECF events
  5. Complete conventional service of sealed materials

Caption (L.R. 5.1(a)(5))

Court name centered. Docket number, case category, last names of District Judge and Magistrate Judge centered. Case style left. Document title centered with name/designation of filing party.
